I'm doing a few subjects in arts where they tell us to do readings before and after lectures and tutes. Just wondering if were suppose to be taking notes while reading, or should we be doing that in the lectures and tutes

Usually I highlight the important points in a reading using a highlighter and bring that amended version to the tutes.

There is no time in tutes to read the readings; they are for discussions so don't be lazy. Tutes based on reading are the easiest type of tutorial/prac/lab in university.

I make notes on the readings (if they're photocopied) like highlight important bits, underline stuff I don't understand, paraphrase the parts that could make interesting discussion questions etc. Basically tutors like it when you discuss stuff in their class (and this can go a long way to tute participation marks).

You should definitely be taking notes during lectures/tutes to further explain the concepts you come across while doing the readings.
