does anyone else have trouble with recurrence formulas. I understand the process except i keep ending up with the entire equation cancelling out or the orginal question equalling zero, I dont know what im doing wrong. Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you're making sign errors.

Ask your teacher where you are going wrong (give him an example of your working and error), or post your working to a question up here and we'll have a look.
