Education Reform = Giving senior kids some laptop? Why not give them better school facilities and teachers not something that most of them would have access to anyway.

Let's keep moving towards a budget deficit!

Well done Kevin07.

How about getting some decent whiteboard markers, in every fucking class teachers had about 50 whiteboard markers but only like one ever worked.
Classrooms are falling apart and teachers don't even have proper equipment and now kids are getting laptops? Fuck that shit.

It's the Rudd Doctrine:Bringing tokenism back

World warming? Sign an outdated document (continue to underfund science)
Abos dying & being raped? Say sorry (continue to let them die)
Obesity becoming moar prevalent? Ban skinny models (ignore underlying social causes)
People not having kids? Hand out free money (as above)
Schools falling apart? Hand out free computers (continue to underfund education)

Um, actually, the laptops were part of a much bigger education funding package in general.

Under an agreement struck at Saturday's Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting, education and schools will receive total funding of $46.4 billion, an increase of $8.3 billion.

Under the agreement $807 million goes to fund on-costs of the federal government's computers in schools program, $1.1 billion for disadvantaged schools, $550 million for teacher training, and $970 million for early childhood reforms.

Well done with the knee-jerk reactions there, champ.

This idiocy by the labour party is sickening.

These left wing moonbats think that giving the kid's tax payer funded laptops will improve their marks.

Laptops?
I wish jellyfish!
I hope they give laptops, but looking at the current financial crisis, it looks nearly unlikely.

It really depends on which kid, wouldn't it be easier to type up notes on your computer and have touchscreen whiteboards then having to write 10pages of work in class? Also, have you ever tried to look for something in a huge book? ITS HARD!!!! or with laptops, its as easy as control+F :haha:

i like the idea of this laptop plan!!! But i doubt its possible in this world fiancial crisis now... Maybe they should introduce this a year ago when everyone was rich!

Why does everyone need a computer at school anyway?
Thats why they invented the pen and paper - because the computer cant be used for everything!

It's not going to be likely you will get the laptop. As someone said, the school gets it and provides it to you. Also, I sort of overheard someone at my Saturday school say that the laptops only apply to government schools rather than private schools. Ouch! Is this true? ;)

This I don't understand. what makes you think a deficit is bad? It's just a stance of fiscal policy that stimulates the economy. which is what we want right now.

I don't see why the financial crisis would affect it. But maybe... can anyone give reasons why?

I hope they do this laptop thing. The idea doesn't seem like that bad AND i get the novelty of owning a free laptop.:)But i can't see this happening for HSC '09 students.

Jesus fucking Christ
Can anyone in here read?
They ARE giving the laptops out. TO THE STUDENTS. EVERYONE IS GETTING THEM (from years 9 - 12)
There is no 'I hope' or 'Please' about it. IT'S HAPPENING.

Anyways, I for one am extremely happy. I am happy not because I get to study with a laptop(lol I would've just bought one of those 200 dollar netbooks if I wanted to) but because I get a FREE LAPTOP.

They have built in blockers, like they have on the internet at schools. DAMN DET!!!!
So that definitely means no porn

they r blocking so much, u cant even install anything, not even Itunes or anything.:evilfire:

:shoot: DET

but it sounds good to me, cos i have really really crappy handwriting, so it will be much easier for techers to mark my work!

What, I was under the assumption that the ONLY filter will be DET, since you have to connect via the school's internet (which will be DET)
The laptop itself won't be filtered, since we're KEEPING it. Even if it was, what's the bet that by the end of the first day, someone will have figured out how to crack it?

Firstly, your sig makes me lol
Secondly,
Some will receive their custom-built computers, powered by a wireless broadband network, by the end of term two next year
to me that suggests giving them out to a small amount of schools and fixing any problems they might have, then giving them out to everyone else later next year.
By that time it would be pointless to give them to us in yr12. but i guess they still might do it anyway, to be nice.
I'm convinced this will happen eventually, but possibly not for us.

oh and i don't really care if there are filters, as long as we can get around them after we leave.

Why thank you

What's your source?

Every NSW public school student in years 9 to 12 will get a laptop they can keep when they leave school
Next year NSW would begin rolling out lightweight, three-quarter sized laptops to the 197,000 students in years 9 to 12 with a lightweight.
"We're very happy that all of this has been settled and we can now roll out these laptops by mid next year.
