Hi, for people who done statistics or something similar before, i got an exam on monday and was wondering if you could help me with something.

How on earth do u find P-value? tried looking in web, books...nothing. any help will be appriciated.

from what i remember of stat170, u need to find the z or t score, and then use the tables they proivde to find the p-value

thanks alot, even thou that helped me in my other area which i needed improvement, i was asking for a different p-value test, if there is one. This one is associated with Null Hypothesis, confidence interval and such calculations.

latest reasearch, which has studies 150males and 100females show that 56% of males and 65% of females are smokers. Find the Hypothesis, CI, Odds Ratio, P-value (Indept test: p on the ecstat program) and write a conlcusion in statistical and normal leanguage about your results.

Consider the data presented in question 1 of last weeks homework.
There are 185 women and 150 men in a community. Two-thirds of
the men, but only 26% of the women, smoke. Test if there is a
association between smoking and gender using Pearson’s chi-squared
test of independence. Clearly state the null hypothesis, test statistic,
degrees of freedom, p-value and your conclusion.

(the answer just tells us what the p-value is, not hwo they got it)

I'm confused about what you're asking.

The p-value is the probability that a random variable is at least as far away from the mean as the test statistic. You want to the find the P-value under Ho, and reject it if it's less than a% (at an a% significance level).

You guys would be given what the test statistic is under Ho, so calculate it and get the P-value from the table.
