hi ppl,

i have this assignment in which i have to answer the following question:

gather and process information on the historical background/development of transformers.

i have looked up in textbooks but i don;t really understand what they are asking for like what do you mean by historical background? is it like a timeline or is it why was there a need to develop transformers , their role and impact.

plzzzzzzzzzz help

I think its asking for both the historical development and the need for them

So in Historical Background you would talk about Michael Faraday's experiment with the iron ring. This is in Jacaranda 2.

Development you probably talk about more efficient ones and how there's a laminated core to disrupt the eddy currents and increase efficiency.

Perhaps it was naive of me but I came in here hoping that you were talking about that old-school cartoon (or at least the physics of it). Alas, it was not to be.

No... it's actually beneficial in physics to do high levels of English rather than maths.

Because even if you don't use the right terminology you get marks taken off.

isn't this meant to be you gathering secondary sources.
It's in Jacaranda 2, Chapter 7 Page 134 and 135.
Regarding the big iron ring.

Transformers are used to change voltage so that it's the correct voltage for the appliance.
Transformers also allow powerstation (generators) to send at high voltage and low current for maximum efficiency and least resistance. because Heat Loss= I^2R

And i'm sure you can find out the rest on the Internet.
Or Wikipedia.org i heard is good for these random things.
