99.9 is excessive and probably artificial, but it's logical for these "new age" courses to be more popular than the traditional sciences.

Despite all the hoopla about a shortage of scientists, there's no shortage of unemployed science graduates. No normal person endures years of organic chemistry or vector calculus for the fun of it. Career opportunities being equal, I'd prefer to study something soft too.

This is news to me. 99.9 seems ridiculously high for a design course, not that I am dissing those who are doing a design course or who choose to do design. After reading all the comments, I think the most probable reason for such a high mark would be the EAS scheme. I mean, how many people would actually get into that course? Only 90 or so people get over 99.9, and certainly not all will want to do this course. Odd.
