Synthetic polymers are made by man as opposed to biosynthesized polymers made from an organism and are often not biodegradable, which means it does not decompose or rot away when exposed to natural conditions.

I noticed the term 'synthetic polymer' isnt in the syllabus yet it is commonly referred to in exams?

Actually, only short answer sections but the term is not used in the question itself. But reading model responses, the term was commonly used there.
