Wow seems like I have been over estimating how hard a 70 is (which is my goal since I've done shit all study this year)
70 isn't that hard to get. A few b4 and b3 would get you cross the 70 mark easily.

what would 4 mid band 5's and 2 low band 5's equate to?

Depends on what subjects they are. Use an ATAR calculator.

Anyway, 70 is the average ATAR. That's all you need to know. Are you an average student? Then you'll get around 70. Simple.

I may be wrong but I always thought 70ish was the average HSC mark. ATAR is a ranking so if you get an HSC mark of 70 in all your subjects will this equate to an ATAR of 50 ie the 50th percentile=average?

What would a

One - B1
One - b2
one - b3
three -high b4s

get you, Not the best scaling subjects.
( 12 units)
It would depend on the subjects, which ones were high b4s etc but it doesn't look too flash. Have a play with an atar calculator - the einstein one is probably the most accurate : http://www.atarcalculator.com.au/ - it will give you some idea.

I just realised the b1 is in English - that REALLY isn't looking good; probably would be scraping 50-55 depending on which Eng, and the others. Use the calculator.

No, the average HSC mark differs from year to year. So yes, you're wrong.
