I don't understand what this question means by using symmetry arguments.

I think it means evaluate the area between e.g. 1/3 and 0. Then multiply by two since its symmetrical.

For the second one, look at the graph of cos-1, you'll see the definite integral = pi/2 (3/4 + 3/4) = 3pi/4
