Any idea on career aspirations? Which uni do you go to, because somebody who is doing the same program at ur uni will be able to give you a more accurate detail of these courses.

If you're interested in financial planning, you wont need knowledge in econometrics, modelling etc rather only a broad understanding of the markets to base your advice for clients on (ie. reading newspapers, keeping an eye on the market, legislation, and overall economic health).

If you were looking for somewhat related subjects, i'd choose these:

- pension & fin planning
- equities & invest analysis
- debt mkts & fixed income sec
- property investment
- options, fin futures & other deri

These would probably be most complimentary to the first broader financial planning subject, but all the basics you would need to know would be taught in the first subject, and would be sufficient enough. The others, whilst giving you a greater knowledge of certain concepts, would be more 'additional interest' choices.

All in all, it really depends on which avenue of finance you want to pursue.

thats helpful and thanks.

But if one wanted to pursue an area of say transaction services or corporate finance, which subjects will be most compliment that area.

I assume it would be some of the more modelling subjects but am not sure..
thanks

FYI its called 'investment banking'...transaction services is for accounting firms who offer other advice not strictly related to strategic/financial advisory

Not sure how many electives you need to choose but the electives most related to banking are

fin analysis and valuation
advanced modelling in fin
debt mkts & fixed income sec

These might be relevant depending on the content (not in particular order)
equities & invest analysis - if on strategic/valuation analysis of companies
property investment - if expose you to valuation techniques
finance law - if teaches you about M&A law
