I believe the computer system that allocates offers wouldnt even consider you.

Apparently if your afew marks off and they need people, if you really excelled in a subject relating to the course you might be considered.

Clearly they don't even set the cut off until all the places have been filled.

If you're a few -read, FEW - off, your careers advisor or similar can make a phone call. People in my school have gotten in via that way :)

but otherwise, go through back ways. You can even do a lower-uai cutof course, then transfer into your "ideal" one :)

If they were going to accept you, what would be the point of having a cutoff in the first place?

if demand was low, the cut-off would reflect that.

There's always a hope. I got a UAI of 90.95, which is 0.05 below the advertised cut-off for Combined Law at UOW (91.00). I got in without having to do anything special, I just listed it as my first preference.

Okey, say, if I got <30 as my UAI, is there a chance I could perhaps squat in spare lecture halls until the janitor's job opens up again?

Don't insult cleaning as a profession.

uai cutoffs are simply supply and demand, if lots of people apply for the course that year and they offer the same amount of spaces the cutoff will be higher and vice versa, law isnt high at usyd cause it is any harder than engineering which is lower, its just demanded more. the cutoffs arnt even known atm.

The cut-offs tell you what UAI last year's students who got into the course had. The UAI required to scrape into the course in the final round of offers might be higher or lower than that this year.

You UAC handbook will tell you what last year's cut-offs were. This year's cut-offs may be higher or lower.
