Hey guys,

Wondering what your thoughts were on exam writing speed. How many booklets per hour should I be writing per hour on average?

Also, do you know the suggested lengths for the English Advanced papers? I know for Extension English you should be getting a minimum of nine pages down to qualify for a band six, probably more (and less time on a creative).

Thank you!

It really depends on how large your handwriting is as well but as the saying goes, about 6 pages per advanced at the minimum for an "average".

Makes sense I guess. 3 pages per 20min implies
English Adv: 40 = 2 * 20
English Ext 1: 60 = 3 * 20

I tend to complete a whole booklet (I have small hand-writing must I add) with around 5min to spare. To be honest, the battery on a pen trick works!

I aim to write 1.2k words in 45mins during my school tests and can usually do so with 3-5 mins left. For paper 2 id go for 1000 words in 40 mins.

Its where you tape a battery to the end of your pen whilst doing any hand written work, writing notes, practise essay etc. It strengthens your hand so that when you are writing without it, your hand moves faster and you can write for longer.

From what I heard, top responses are 1200+ words for advanced paper 1. Paper 2 is probably around 1400 words or so per essay, they have the responses memorised though, so it is possible if you are not wasting time thinking.
