hey just confirming.

is SCIF mandatory for commerce/advanced math? like do i absolutely have to do this degree at some point? i know math1151, econ etc are needed for the commerce component.

SCIF is mandatory, and you must do it in Stage 1, iirc. So first year.

alright thanks mate. so i can do it either sem1 or sem2?

just making sure because it kinda screws my (preferred) timetable this sem but i dont want to kick myself out of advanced math by not doing a mandatory course lol.

SCIF1121 is offered only in Semester 1, iirc.

You don't have to do SCIF in first year but why wouldn't you? That's pretty much how you get to know everyone doing adv science/maths.

You can easily overload SCIF (provided you have the WAM) in later years...it's not too big of a strain because it's a total piece of crap.

Also doing adv maths/commerce with an actuarial major in mind. I'm planning on doing Maths1151, Sciff1121, Math1081, Comp1917 for semester one and Math1251, Actl1001, Fins1613, Comp1927 for semester two (somewhat unconventional I know.) I intend to complete more of the commerce flexible core (such as Acct1511) in subsequent years my question is will the fact that I've only done 12 UOC for commerce in first year stop me from progresssing to level 2 courses?

As long as you meet prerequisites, that should be fine. Check the handbook.

Well, I'd take it at face value. Do one semester of courses (24 uoc, usually) - and you should be fine.
