After 10 years as NSW Premier, Bob Carr is expected to resign this morning.
Mr Carr has called an 11am press conference at his office in Govenor Macquarie Tower in the city.
Police minister Carl Scully and Health minister Morris Iemma would be the most likely replacements as Premier - with sources saying Mr Iemma could have the numbers to win a vote.
It is believed Mr Carr decided to resign after reaching the milestone of 10 years as Premier.
He is thought to be following in the footsteps of Neville Wran who also spent 10 years in the top job.
It is understood Mr Carr has no other jobs lined up.
