the bible contridicts itself-

'In Deuteronomy 24:1, moreover, Moses teaches that marriages broken in infidelity cannot be restored, even if both parties want to get back together. But in Jeremiah 3, in a shocking reversal given in a pathos-filled poem, God's own voice indicates a readiness to violate that Torah teaching for the sake of restored marriage to Israel. The old teaching is seen to be problematic even for God. The latter text shows God prepared to move beyond the old prohibition of Torah in order that the inherent evangelical claims of God's graciousness may be fully available even to a recalcitrant Israel.'

Walter Brueggemann, Christian Century (Jan. 3-10 2001, p.16)

I don't believe i god fro many reasons.. one of them being that there is too much contridiction and many of the things I dont believe in such as not being able to divorce... I think you should be able to... what if there was domestic violence involved? you gonna sit there and continue to let them beat u senseless? I should hope not... some people do, and thats their decision. But if the partner wants out for legitimate resons then they should be allowed. Other reasons such as if there were a God- then hes screwed me over, some stuff has happened in my life that has left me wondering why? and what have I ever doen to deserve this etc etc....

hehe.. starts thinking about the simpsons.. Happy God, Vengful God, Happy God, Vengful God... hehe
so like catholics cant get divorced no matter wat? hmm does anyone want to explain y?

Few things:

1. I dont know where we went off the issue about God's existence and started talking about the Bible. It was established earlier that the Bible should not be used for or against.
2. It was establish about 1000 posts ago that contradictions occur in the Bible, no need to keep looking for evidence.
3. That guy obviously has no idea...although a divorce is not allowed by SOME denominations in Christianity, an annulment of the marriage is allowed if the reasons are valid, especially in the case of abuse and infidelity.

they can have an annulment as in the marriage never existed... but then they cant get married in the catholic church again. Its because it states in parts of the bible such as Mark10 "so they are no longer 2 but one, Man must not seperate what Gid has brought together"...(lol this feels like im writting my SOR exam again)

You cant just 'get' and annulment either... there has to be legit reasons such as...

- You or siginificant otherwere underage and werent mature enough (under 18)
- You or siginificant other were forced into marriage against your will
- You or siginificant other were mentally ill at point of marriage or are now mentally ill

... things like that. So you can get an annulment based on those sorts of reasons but never marry in the Cath church again cos the bible says so....Stupid bible

Speaking from a catholic point of view, contraceptions are traditionally not allowed as it prevents procreation. However there is a tendency today towards personal choice, but if the church is ever asked about its stance it will normally say its against it.

Sexual ethics was probably the issue that i specialised in during my studies

Im sure you will find catholics that have remarried in the church, i even know some that have. You are thinking of divorces, if a catholic gets legally divorced then they are not usually allowed to remarry in the church

Catholic people can, nuns and priest and such cannot as technically they devote their life to God and hence cannot truely be in any other relationship

And yes i was reffering to the person that was quoted not flipsyde

As i said its more of a personal issue now. The Jews were traditionally the same but reformed Jews similarly leave it up to choice

Muslim leaders tell women to cover their features, be modest etc... that women are worth 1/2 that of men...

muslim leaders dont tell women to do anything..............the koran tells women to cover up.........and its out of respect for women only............unlike some of the christians who have been saying that they dont base thier lives on the bible, muslims do base their lives on the Koran.

Edit........who told u they tell women they are not equal to men?

they r equal.......i dunno wat Not That Bright is refering to........men excel women in some areas and women excel men in other areas........yet they r equal overall

eg: in the koran it says men excel women in some areas women excel in other areas........however overall the word man is mentioned 12 times in the koran and the word woman is mentioned twelve times in the Koran
