my teacher said he's going to exclude any marking of any part that he hasn't done, so would your teacher probably. The thing is, if someone attempted all the question, imagine the disadvantage he'd be put upon, especially if he sacrificed efforts on other questions for that one..

yeah my teacher cut out some stuff from the non option part and made up her own for shipwrecks and salvage n put the marks in there....so for me its 35

ok heres wat i got for the calcium carbonate question...
Q:
10g o CaCO3, 50mL = 0.05L of 1 Mol/L HCl... Volume of CO2?
A:
Eqn is: CaCO3 + 2HCl --> CO2 + H2O + CaCl2
num of moles of CaCO3 = 10g/100.05 = 0.09995moles
num of moles of HCl = 0.05 moles
so since theres lees HCl its the limiting reagent and u use that for the calculation...
from the Eqn the ratio of HCL:CO2 is 2:1
therefore, 0.025 moles of CO2
now time that by 24.79 (100kPa n 25C) = 0.61975 L = 0.62 L
Is that right?????????
also, i was really surprised at the exam coz i expected it to be a lot harder
there were HARDLY any calculation and NO titrations and acid rain questions???? there was nothing on monitoring water ways etc. either??? they were like all the main thing i studied for!
did u's get an electronic balance as the equipment for the fermentation question? it took me a while to figure out that the only data being monitored was weight

Yeah, there was that fruit canning question about testing water quality and monitoring. That was close enough to waterways

- Transuranic elements/New elements and the rare isolation
- Lowry/Bronsted theory (I got Davy right)
- CFCs
- Amphiprotic substances using equations
- Polyethylene/cellulose production
- Ethanol/Fuel extender with implications
- Branch of chemistry, chemical principle involved
- Fermentation (equipment setup)
- Metabisulfate/Wine pH question
Industrial chemistry
- Name an emulsion and relate properties to uses
- Sodium hydroxide equation
- Diaphragm cells
- Solvay process

That went better than expected. With all the study i did i just kept writing and writing and writing..... and i think it was all correct.
Anyway an estimation of at least 90 is what i'm looking at.
The industrial chem option was so easy i couldn't believe it. Just lucky i suppose.

yeah i thought it was pretty easy, other than my option and that what i got for my calcium carbonate one as well....yippe....for teh fermentation, i got electronic balance or mass meter, generally to measure mass
edit: and i finished pretty early as well, not including checkin time..i thought i wouldnt have enuf time, when i went in

Yeah, I went pretty bad, I thought. I'm in the 60s hopefully. I knew everything else (or the 'most relevant' sections).
But for the points listed above, I didn't completely skip them or anything, I knew some bits, so I'd be getting 1/4, 2/3, 3/7, and so on (marks out of the allocated marks).
All the results would be about the same, I don't know too many people who went "extremely" well. (90%+)

hmm..why u put it for 6 hours and not 3.5 minutes? is that too short?

yeah 3.2 minutes is too short for any good analysis to be done
