hey I have an idea for my PIP but not sure if it could be good.
It's something like 'How has the impact of "Americanisation" influenced Australian teenagers compared to it's influence on Argentinian teens' (I juat came back from a 3 week intensive trip to Argy which is the inspiration for this). My teacher said it could work well but I'm not sure...
Help would be appreciated please!

I did the PIP this year, and I found it so frustrating, all that editing and researching. I think whatever you do, just make sure it's a topic you can definitely stay interested in for a whole year. And start early. Very early. Especially the bibliography and the appendix. Those things are no joke.
All the best to you guys :)
i totalli agree. i know ima 07er but just want to wish u guyz all the best coz ive just been down the "stress is making me bald" path of the PIP. but you'll ALL get through it! and good to see you guys starting early! good luck&god bless!! =p

1) Reality TV or those that have a screenplay?
2) What about Gen X?
3) Focus on certain shows that have something in common - Desperate Housewives, Sex and The City, maybe?
4) Fiction in books? Or...
5) Moods don't affect society, they're personal.

Ive just decided, after much talks with my teacher, that my topic is going to be about HSC parents/families - the effect that it has on them, like socially, economically and the stress it has on them. I need a bit of help refining the topic though... any ideas??

Hello eveyrone
Once again, I have changed my PIP topic, but this time, this one is sticking
Basically, I heard of an article in the newpaper that said
'People who hug more than others, are better off mentally healthlier'
And, by which got me thinking about the idea of doing Hugs as a Pip

I have been talking to my teacher about this, and we just organised how I can set this topic out into chapters
Having 4-5 chapters 1000 words long each

Chpt 1: Mental Health, connection with Hugs and other forms of affection
Chpt 2: Emotional Well Being
Chpt 3: Childern and Hugs as a support and comfort thing
Chpt 4: Evidence; effects of no contact. Study in general

Cross Cultural Study:
Find a country that is very affectionate

So, any thoughts??

The Hugs one is really good! & it'd be interesting to investigate too :)
It actually reminds me of what we've learnt about in CAFS & the story of Jeanie the girl who grew up with no contact from anyone & she couldnt talk or even walk properly.

So far for my PIP topis idea's they all relate to comparison's of the teen generation & adult / elderly generations.

#1 Are the life problems of teenagers today the same as 30 years ago?
#2 Have the stereotypical subcultures in schools changed in 70 yrs?
#3 Is the opinion society has on teenagers true?

I really like the first one atm

Hmm thanks for that

Well, my first PIP topic was about stereotypes and how they affect the social development among teenagers
My Teacher said it was alright idea, but told me to pick a different topic for better marks.

yay I'm so happy I found this thread :) I was looking for the 08` PIP thread :)

well my topic is..

Why do Asian parents put such an importance on their childs success.

Basically, I'm trying to find out the pressure of the children, why parents do so, positive or negative impacts?, part of socialisation- how we grow up to become obsessed with impressing our parents?, the term "we came here to give you a better life so you'd better get 100%", the conditions of asian countries compared to here- how it affects values. so and so yap yap yap!

I'm thinking of using such texts in my methodologies as
analysis- Amy Tans Books (good range to show chinese culture!)
surveys. students and children?
interviews- parents?
so and so. others as well :) LOL

Funny how I got the idea. lol. I got a big tell off after I mentioned the idea to my parents :)

well, I don't know if my topic is that much of a deal or not.

wouldn't mind opinions? :)
thanks.

what is your cross culture component?
I'm going to talk to my teacher more about that tomorrow.
But I'm not really sure about that.
She told me it was alright if I did something about the 'generation gap'
and how it was different for the parents then it is the children.
Something about "more opportunities in Australia" so they expect more?
I'm not really sure :( lol still working on it :)
edit: ++ view of parents and children? if that counts for something on different views? such yeahbrah :)

changes across time would be a very good cross culture. if you want, you can also compare "asian" youth to anglo youth.

Just a suggestion: Don't you think looking at Asian youth is broad? Being Asian doesn't necessarily mean the whole 'flat nose, squinty eyes, east asian' thingo
Narrow it down to a certain background. If you are of Chinese heritage, look at Chinese culture and values. The markers will know that you're refering to east Asians, but Asians also include central asians, south asians, and people from the middle east.

yeah I was contemplating over the asian thing.
I was going to do only chinese, but i think I'll find it a bit hard since i can't associate with many chinese here?
a lot of my friends are viet and filo and such.
during my investigation, i was thinking about comparing different asian cultures
because i know my some of my friends dont have as much emphasis on it then other cultures etc
thanks a lot for this :) you're a great help :)

Oh okay :uhhuh:

I think i'm going to go with #2: How has the stereotypical nature in schools changed since my parents generation. I discussed my 3 choices with my teacher & she reckons it'll be good cause i wont get tired of it.
But its much better than one of my first thoughts- the elderly & suicide, but im doning that lol
