Urgent industrial Q: how do we model the first part of the Solvay process? (Co2 bubbled through ammoniated brine)
mix 10ml of concentrated ammonia (30%) with 10ml brine in a 100ml beaker. add 10g of ammonium chloride and mix thoroughly until no dissolves. decant the clear solution into a conical flask. add dry ice to the flask and allow it to sublime. should get some NaHCO3 precipitate

You know how the half-cells are equilibrium reactions?

That wouldn't happen in Galvanic cell. It a straight one way direction unless energy from another external circuit eg. a generator or a battery is supplied.

Since its from ahmed's notes, it must be right ^. Also I dont get how you got the CO3- ion from nowhere?

it's a HCO3- ion. dry ice is CO2.

CO2 + H2O <---> H2CO3
H2CO3 + NH3 <---> HCO3- + NH4+
