Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well!

:bosman: After the wonderful 3rd Edition which was won by Imran Ahmed, I am excited to announce the 4th Edition of the Bored of Studies Chess Competition! :bosman:

Rise to the challenge and climb your way to the very top! Who will emerge as the next BoS Chess Champion?

Games will be played through lichess.org.

The top 5 Bored of Studies chess players of the 3rd Edition were:
  1. Imran Ahmed
  2. Aeonium
  3. nathanzhou1234
  4. ilovemangos
  5. Pametan
The intended format for this competition is a knockout and each game will go for 15 minutes. In terms of the rules, they are as follows:
  • Each round will go for a maximum of 7 days. The quicker you complete your games, the quicker you will be able to defeat your upcoming opponents! 😜
  • Each game will have a time limit of 15 minutes per player.
  • Once the draw is released, you and your opponent need to contact each other to agree on a time for your match to take place. You will have to communicate with all of your opponents in order to play all your games.
  • Once a match is over, the winner is required to direct message me (jimmysmith560) with the result. Please don't post results on this thread as doing so obstructs other useful information, not to mention that it can kill the suspense.
  • Since the intended format for this competition is a knockout, a loss means a player is out of the competition and a win means that a player advances to the next round.
  • In the case of a draw (stalemate), both players will have a rematch. This process will be repeated until one player is victorious.
  • If a player is found to have been cheating, they will automatically be disqualified from the competition, and their opponent will instead progress to the next round.
  • If a player fails to respond to their opponent's message within the maximum time limit (7 days), that player is disqualified and their opponent automatically advances to the next round.
Please ensure that you regularly check this post for any updates to the rules.

The minimum number of players required is 8. Once 8 players have signed up, the competition can start. If more than 8 players sign up, the additional players will be placed on a reserve list in the event that one (or more) of the 8 original players drops out. If this number increases to 16, there will be no need for a reserve list, meaning that all 16 players would be able to participate.

Remember that skill is the last thing sought! The aim of this competition is for everyone to have a good time, irrespective of age and skill! :D

I will announce the list of the participating players and the draw in due course! Make sure that you regularly check this thread!

Best of luck to all players, and let the games begin! ♟️
