1. go into unsw commerce and then transfer into law

2. go to uts with law/commerce, i already recieved a conditional offer

3. go to macquarie law/commerce, i already got early entry

Go the UNSW comm then transfer ( if me). But UTS and Macquarie r both fine if u don’t care about the uni + u can transfer just harder. But tbh, if u don’t mind what was ur predicted atar + lat? U might not be as cooked as u think u r

Tbh I think u will be fine. It’s competitive- but like UNSW cares way more about atar then LAT ( dare I say LAT is kind of insignificant now…🫣). Like Ik more ppl who have made it in with a good atar ( tho not 97.7 level) w a bad lat than vice versa. So just hope for the atar or take alternatives ( which ever u feel most comfortable in).

the only gripe I have w UNSW law is increasing the atar from 95 to 97.7 and offering unconditional early entry to a shi ton of students 💔💔 we just gotta hope we have a chance lmao in that regards. But if they r as lenient as they were in the past- hopefully lmao u ( and I) should be fine 👀👀

oh my days i know i cant even begin with the conditional early offers but changing the atar requirement from 95 to literally almost 98 like i cannot, macquarie and uts are looking like my only options. When i strated year 12 i was pretty set with UNSW because it was achievable, and now it's basically not.

Ikr it PMO. Like it’s so unfair bc I have a problem w the criteria w the conditional early offers in the first place ( if yk yk- I could rant an entire essay y it’s bad). If they had made it as harsh as USYD they could’ve kept it at 95 💔💔. even tho my predicted atar could get it me in, im also genuinely considering alternatives bc tf is a 97.7 🥲 y the 0.7 too?! Lmao

IKR I CANT! Firstly, this is the oNLY uni doing this type of stuff like they cant even decide if they want to do early entry or not atp, second the trimesters too and the lat. Conditional early offer + trimesters + lat, like pick a struggle im gonna tweak out. YES AND THE0.7 JUST REJECT ME ATP, how did it go up from 94 point soemthing to this?!?!?!?!?!??!

Honestly, im just going to prepare myself to chose an alternative because im not trying to crash out when i get my ATAR, at the end of the day its about your work experience, skills and practice rather than your uni, being the top student in macquarie is better than struggling at UNSW.

Ikr it’s acc so dumb. Like even the criteria alone for early entry is dumb bc wdym is based off where u live? Like at least check the income ( we know it’s priv school boys benefitting the most). Also theyre supposed to be offered after the atar release not before wtf + the 0.7 is the cherry on top. If they went from 95 to 95.5-96 it’s understandable but 97.7?? Where’d they pull that number out of? 😭.

regardless of LAT I’ve already had to prepare for alternatives in case bc the early entry offers keep increasing while the atar keeps going up. It’s a rlly dumb system and idk y it hasn’t changed 💔 I wish u luck tho and to me as well bc we need it lmao

i know someone that didn't get the atar requirement for UNSW law.
They did criminology at UNSW and then transferred into law this year successfully. so doing commerce is definitely a pathway that would be cool.

Genuinely what does UNSW get by admitting a majority amount of Gateway (no min. atar) applicants?

Do they get Government grants? No

Atleast with admitting Internationals, UNSW gets more money apparently.

Everyone who wants to get into UNSW with normal schemes such as direct entry and Portfolio conditional entry (normal cause anyone can do it) have to suffer with artificially increased requirements.

Are they trying to make themselves seem more prestigious with higher entrance requirements on paper... just to allow people with legit 60 ATAR to get in?

a lot of the time people from worse off schools get much worse ATARs, but then when they get to uni they do just as well as people with higher ATARs because their lower ATARs are due to factors like teaching etc. average ATARs are way lower in lower socio economic areas, and it’s not like these people are magically less intelligent, they’ve just got a much lower quality of education and other factors like less tutoring. a school near my hs was doing like a period off per day for each year due to teacher shortages, like your ATAR is obviously going to be lower with that even if you’re capable of doing well in uni

agree with this. a rural 95 is more impressive than a selective 99 a lot of the time

but i feel like half the people the schemes admit didnt really suffer much disadvantage and gamed the system. but i suppose their grades in uni would reflect that

Most ppl do game the system bc they admit based on disadvantaged schools - deserved, but also “disadvantaged areas” which isn’t rlly deserved? Like regional NSW is ranked better than some places in Sydney which really doesn’t make sense? Ik ppl who got gateway money who don’t need it and just use it to fund holidays + get into courses despite being better in life than most. If they wanted to support disadvantaged families besides schools, they should check income ( like they do w US ivies).

this is so so so real ik so many people who are swimming in money but just because the street they live in is "low socioeconomic" they get it
