I'm not sure if this is a territorial gain, but Korea gained independence from the Sino Japanese War (Japan's interests in Korea were recognised with the Treaty of Portsmouth).
Also, Japan gained the southern part of Sakhalin Island, Taiwan, Pescadores Islands and the Liaotung Peninsula...
LOL this thread suggests anyone aiming for 100 is facing a lot of competition. It would be great if one of you guys do get it though. Do tell us in 2010 :)
If you're considering doing a degree like medicine, law or something specialised like that it would take quite a while to finish if you were to go to an American university. You'd have to go through college for an undergrad liberal arts degree AND go to postgraduate school. And the cost of that...
I rewrite maths notes by hand before I do exercises. I usually type all my other notes, but this usually isn't as effective. It's just easier. It is more effective though, if you research some of the information yourself.
I like a subject when I'm doing well in it. I hate a subject when I do badly. I have a love-hate relationship with English. The concept of English is great. But high school English, like Maths, becomes a lot about remembering formulas.
Regarding work involved
exams>assignments>speeches
The preparation for exams is really daunting but it really shows in the end result. Exams seem more fair to me. I just hate it when someone who's only finished an assignment the night before and has leeched off other people can get the same...
There was another thread on something like this here.

Pretty much everything scales down with the exception of mx2 etc. In terms of scaling both subjects are very similar e.g. this year an aligned...
I'm an impulse buyer, so I ended up getting 3 HSC Legal Studies textbooks. I'm not sure if I'm even going to be keeping the subject for the HSC. Couldn't help it. They were only $20.
English ext 1
Maths ext 1
Chemistry
Legal Studies
Modern History
I'm thinking of dropping english ext for year 12 and picking up maths ext 2. Probably 75% sure on keeping the other subjects, but we'll see. If I really get into modern history, I could always pick up history extension. Gah...
It's probably there so if you get caught plagiarising, you can't use the excuse that you 'didn't know' (lol, terrible excuse). Or so the Board of Studies doesn't get blamed etc.
We've done a few of the options: logarithm, polynomials, circle geometry, functions etc. You'll learn them next year. They're very simple and easy to understand so you don't really need to learn them too early.
