Med is actually quite forgiving in terms of grades since it's they consider it as a Boolean criteria. That said, a fail is 0 which makes it extremely difficult to come back from. (I am talking about post grad medicine).

Going to class isn't THAT important. Most of the Maths classes have pretty comprehensive notes. What is very important though is to do all the tutorial questions and be able to do them correctly without having to look at the solutions.

The exams are worth so much that if you screw something up it can effect your mark a lot. This becomes even more evident in second and third year when a lot of them have 75-80% exam components. Beyond that I have a vague feeling that they have reduced the amount of scaling in the Advanced units...

    MATH3075-Financial Mathematics

If you think you would struggle in 3963 I would guess that you would struggle just as much if not more so in the Pure Mathematics courses. Almost all of them are only offered at the advanced level, especially the ones that are "worth" taking, namely Metric Spaces, Rings, Fields and Galois...

    MATH3075-Financial Mathematics

I thought if you wanted to do honours in pure they want you to have done the rings and fields class as well as the metric spaces class? Although there is no distinction with what you graduate with (unless you do financial mathematics and statistics) I think it does matter what classes you chose...

    Maths is a wonderful thing

It does but it is also much more difficult. The jump between first and second year math courses is quite large. I would say it scales less because less "not advanced" students take the second year advanced units. The jump from second to third year is less though.

    MATH3075-Financial Mathematics

Pure is likely more involved than Applied is, also most of the necessary Pure units are Advanced. 3975 isn't bad Rutkowski approaches it from Measure Theory, you will need a fair bit of probability to truly understand the material. That said, you can do well (probably not a HD though) without a...
