Currently taking Adv. Eng with the hopes of getting into Ext.1 for Year 12, if I can prove myself. Is the jump dramatic?

Yes, I would be taking Ext before hand because dropping down is easier than going up, but my school doesn’t offer Ext right off the bat because EALD is the biggest English class

I thought you couldn't go into Ext English if you didn't pick it originally in year 10?

my school doesn't let you move up in year 12 unless its ext1 to ext2

That’s what I mean. I’m taking English Advanced in the hopes of going into Ext1 in Year 12, however it is easier to pick Ext.1 in Year 10- but my school doesn’t allow that.

Taking English Extension 1 in year 12 requires the completion of the English Extension year 11 course. The same applies to Mathematics Extension 1. If you do not take and complete the year 11 course, you will not be eligible to take the year 12 course. This is part of NESA subject rules and does not depend on individual schools. :)

contact ur school asap to get in for year 11. English extension is so much easier. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that after trials, I didn't study Eng Ext 1 until the morning of the hsc exam, and literally got a 47 (and i didnt get pulled up by my rank). It's a lot more conceptual so if your good at waffling, its so easy to get good at ext1

If that’s the case, I’m sorting this out first day back. There’s a 3 week window where Year 11 students can swap out their subjects, I will storm into that office with a grin and an essay (We have a little sheet of information that we need to fill out to swap subjects)

Yes the jump is dramatic but not in a bad way. I honestly enjoyed ext english more than advanced. First of all, less work, more freedom, only 2 modules (common and elective). The workload is much less and there is some crossover with advanced. If your capable of having some extra English classes and work, go for it. Its worth big bucks in HSC plus if u get a E3 or E4 when applying to uni.

Update for those who care: I decided to take it, and I walked into the office of the lady who deals with subjects, and she said I should’ve made this decision last year.

there is not. they would need to make arrangements in order for me to take it (like virtual learning) and it’s just far too late
honestly while i feel for you i would say its not the end of the world if you dont do this subject. just make sure the rest of your subjects are enjoyable and suited to your goals and strengths.
