i thought playing white would give you a : 50% win 30% loss 20% draw and black being: 30% win 50% loss 20% draw

ohh.. i presumed as there is a 20% chance of draw, there would only be a 50% chance of losing as black.

Why not? Say you came first by one or two marks, why not relax and let the second ranked person do all the work? I wouldn't do it but it's there for others who want to gamble with their HSC.

What if you came first in a subject and you screwed up on the externals with a mark of let's say... 70 And the second ranked person who studied really really really hard gets 100. Do you get that mark?
