    Memorizing Essays.........

wel, thats great. But there were also plenty of us, myself included, who also got band 6 and E4 without memorising essays. I still maintain that if you know your texts well and you can remember the techniques, their meaning and how they link the texts together (which has got to be easier than...

    English!!!!!!!

heh, no-one said you couldn't be stressed. In fact, a little stress is good, it makes you perform better. All i said was leave the drama-queen-contemplating-suicide antics for uni :p

    what kind of productions?

well, it's not as likely that they would ask this, but, yes, there is the possibility. Just remember, no matter the question, the rubric essentially doesn't change - which means you're still going to be marked on context-based material. So, if you got a question like the letter you were...

    Help: "King Lear"

look, i see your problem. the only way i can think of to get around it is to talk about how, altough the text we study know is as shakespeare intended it, the version that Jacobean audiences saw was not --> after only one showing Shakespeare's Lear was taken off the stage and Nahum Tate's...

    Prepare all three texts??

i did I&S (P&P, dolls house, browning): basically everyone learnt 2 really well with enough knowledge of the third that they could talk about it if need be. they usually say "at least 2" and then your found text(s) as well. you'll be safe with 2, but it's a good idea to have a working...

    Help: "King Lear"

last year i talked about, oh, let's see *tries to remember*, uh, i think it was: - revisionist (Tate) - absurdist/nihilist (Brook) - feminist/domestic (Eyre, and a bit on Freudian but it wasn't so relevant, just a few sentences) - christian (Blessed - damn i hated this one, so boring. so...

    Listing texts

bossy aren't we? fine. ..... yes, alright, but the lack of substantiation of the argument provides myriad possibilites for confusion. technique gives a framework of evidence (for want of a better expression) and proves that you have understood the texts and HOW the meaning is drawn fom them...

    Does anyone like English?

yes, but in many cases although the answers make look different they are either: a) actually the same and only superficially different or b) there are only a set number of answers that can be considered correct and only a set amount of ways to correctly obtain those answers. You have to...

    what kind of productions?

    1. eyre is, at least in part, based on a feminist reading 2. if you talk about a production you have to say who the producer was --> the point you're trying to get across is: a) what techniques have they used that create a reading/interpretation? b) what is/are this/these...

    Help: "King Lear"

If you wrote a whole essay on just an aristotelean reading than no, you haven't answered the question. but you must have covered more readings than that in your course surely? you need to be able to show that composers are able to change 'Lear' to suit their individual contexts: in terms of...

    Does anyone like English?

but thew mistake people make is to think that there are no right or wrong answers in english, that it's all just opinion. this isn't true: it's more complex. the degree to which your answer is 'right' is directly proportional to the technical evidence you can locate, explain and synthesise...

    creative writing question

3-4 A4 pages is fine length-wise. they aren't liekly to ask you for a feature article, but you'd still want it to be substantial, you do have 40 minutes after all

is this directed at me? if so, uh, it was round 95-ish i think (i wasn't particulary concerned, just looked at bands). but, like i said, i really didn't take the HSC seriously, i didn't need to to get into what i wanted

i dont see how you can talk on a conceptual level without synthesing the discussion in with technical detail

    Memorizing Essays.........

oh. i quite agree, but i woudn't count this as memorising: the things you mention are the result of study and knowing your texts. that's different to having one essay that you've learnt off by heart
