    Co-op and rural scholarships

As for how competitive it is, for Actuarial studies they receive 200-300 applications (I have heard) and give out 10-20 scholarships. Last year they gave out 16.

how you guys studying for extension

There is an "important" link to a good site on the Ext.2 forum with a lot of past papers, about 75 I think. It's a very good site, has a shitload of papers ranging in difficulty. I should have a look at them, like 10 days until the HSC starts and I have done 3 past papers. Not for Ext.2...

    The Chaser Decides/CNNNN

John Safran would be good I reckon, he went alright when he was filling in on Sundays from 3:00. His series "John Safran vs God" is good as well, except for that Voodooism segment. *shudders*

    Rove Live Studio Burns Down

Corinne Grant is funny as well, but not on Rove. The Glass House, 10:10 on ABC has Wil Anderson, Corinne Grant and Dave Hughes as hosts, probably a favourite comedy show of all time to be honest.

    The Chaser Decides/CNNNN

I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that this is Chris and Craig's last year at JJJ (even though it is their first). Adam and Wil are also leaving! :( I wonder who is going to replace them all though? :S

    Well said.

    Lactus Rectum

Meh. My mistake, forgot the requirement that the focus has to be the midpoint of the line, or it isn't a latus rectum.

    Lactus Rectum

Could you say that a ellipse perhaps has 3 latus recta? I mean consider the basic ellipse, (x2/a2) + (y2/b2) = 1, where a > b, you could say that there are the two vertical latus recta as well as one horizontal latus rectum that goes through both foci?

Complex Numbers - De Moivres Theorem

    cos2@ - isin2@ = (cos@ - isin@)2 RHS = (cos@ - isin@)2 = cos2@ - 2isin@cos@ - sin2@ Equate Real parts from LHS and RHS: cos2@ = cos2@ - sin2@ - Eqn. 1 (That "i" you gave in the question...

    Lactus Rectum

The latus rectum is the line that goes through the focus and is perpendicular to the axes that the focus is on. It is bounded by the two points where it intersects the curve, and for a parabola it's length is 4a. I can't remember off the top of my head what the corresponding lengths are for the...

    Survivor 9 - Vanuatu

Hey I don't know whether it is because we are more similar in age, but I always find myself going for the younger people. With some exceptions of course............YEAH RUPERT!!!!

    Survivor 9 - Vanuatu

I lost a lot of interest when they voted Dolly off, for obvious reasons. Anyways, I hope Brady wins, big FBI agent dude should be able to use his covert and stealth assassination skills to become number one.

    Volumes

I've been taught to do it from the very start, ie. Draw a diagram, indicate the region that is being rotated, draw up a rectangle inside the graph, label the length and height (as deltaX and Y, or whatever the question requires) Then draw a cilindrical shell indicating where it has been taken...

B Science, B Science (Advanced Science)

Egaaaaads! I am looking to do a science degree at UNSW, majoring in pure mathematics. I applied for B Science and just realised that you can't even do it in B Science, you need B Science (Advanced Science). Is this information correct? If so, I guess I better find out how to change my...

de moivre - give as reason?

It can't hurt to do so, although I doubt you would ever lose a mark for not doing it. I would usually do something like: (rcis@)^n = (r^n)cisn@ (From De Moivre's theorem) etc.

Do you need a tutor for 4u Maths??

I come from a place where if you have a tutor you are way below average overall. If you are doing 4-unit maths then you don't really need a tutor in the first place. But that's just me anyways...

Ahh, ok. I think it was the latter, they didn't do all of the .xx and so on, just rounded it off to the nearest half.
