I would not say I am entirely sympathetic to them, and in many cases believe they do harm their own advancement (I don't mean assimilation, I mean in areas like life expectancy, crime, substance abuse), the governments of both the past and present are certainly not blameless, though.
I would define invasion as a hostile action, and although the actions of many individual settlers were perhaps less than noble, I believe that the intentions of the British rulers were more benevolent.
