    Committments other than academic?

If you're smart enough to achieve a perfect UAI you probably wouldn't need to study all that much. If you know that you are not extremely talented (I'm not assuming that you're not) then don't bother going for such a high score unless you really need a scholarship or something like that. Just...

Why does everyone find uni so hard compared to high school?

I guess it depends on the subject. People don't always chat away during reading time but sometimes it happens.

Why does everyone find uni so hard compared to high school?

Now that I think about it, the only aspect of high school in which it really is way better than uni is when it comes to how people behave during exams. In high school when people entered the exam room, they didn't talk - not until at least after the end of writing time anyway. Whereas in uni...

Why does everyone find uni so hard compared to high school?

I agree with Shuter. Unless you're completely stupid, your marks in uni really do depend on your ability and how much effort you put in rather than what your UAI is. Of course there is the occasional slip up (in terms of marks) but usually what I've said is quite true, from my experience anyway.

    What would you do?

I see no contradiction or double standards whatsoever in your post. I am not "completely and utterly wrong." I said earlier on that an individual would need to consider their own situation in order to decide on the best thing to do and that is certainly not incorrect. So before you decide to...

    What would you do?

That's a given. From that it is also a given that people can only offer views based on what they know of her situation. So a person would need to be a bit stupid to imply that they have more of a right to comment than you. In that case you would need to take your situation into...

    What would you do?

Oh sorry, I didn't know that the resident expert on parent - child relationships was online. In your response you're telling me that "they get grounded..." But in the part of my post which you quoted, I specifically referred to the thread starter. So you know that she gets grounded? If I knew...

    What would you do?

You should probably read my responses more careufully. It's not so much what I think of other people's behaviour that matters but rather, the reasoning behind what is said. Simply using the 'my life, my choice' line (or something similar) is not presenting anything of substance. It does not take...

    What would you do?

A lot of people were using the 'I'm an adult' line as a justification for not telling her parents. What I said was more of a response to the people who used that line. As for what I said in my edit being unfair - do the oppressive parents that you allude to lock their children up if they...

    What would you do?

With regards to the holiday you're right, if she's paying for it then her parents shouldn't have much of a say about what she does on her trip. But I think that the least she could do is tell her parents who is accompanying her. It doesn't matter whether or not they agree with what she plans to...

    What would you do?

Lol some people seem to be living in fantasy land. I can understand the views of the people who have actually moved out and are not supported financially by their parents. But the HSC n00bs? Seriously, as long as your living expenses are still being taken care of by your parents, you are not...

    University or High School?

Well ok perhaps a larger proportion of people were more motivated during high school. But I like how in uni you generally get rewarded for your efforts - you put in lots of work and you get good scores, you do nothing you fail, just the way I like it. I didn't particularly like seeing people...

    University or High School?

For me, University > Highschool. I knew the people better in highschool but at uni the learning environment is so much better. People are generally more motivated to do well and that makes me want to work harder as well.

    Has anyone here

I've never had to worry about this sort of thing personally. However, I have read about other people at my uni who obtained scores of below 50 (as low as 46) and still had their scores adjusted up to 50 so that they could pass. On the other hand, I've taken some subjects where they specifically...
