    Classroom of the Elite

But seriously, no spamming especially in the school forums or else we’ll have no choice but to act. Keep it school related thanks.

    Classroom of the Elite

Since this is inextricably linked to the Biology Marathon Thread, why does this need to be in two separate threads rather than more conveniently contained in the same thread?

    99.95 atar

Correlation does not mean causation. It is possible to achieve 99.95 with any combination of subjects. However, there are only 20 or so that are given every year in the state. Therefore, the range of subjects that these 20 or so students did will naturally be quite limited in the data collected...

    2021 HSC

I don’t think there is any suggestion from the Premier that what they proposed for Year 12s will be completely reversed. It’s more that it will take a different form compared to what was originally promised. It’s a classic case of announce the proposal and sort out the details later on...

    Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Just to be clear, I didn’t actually make any inference about future trends based on the previous waves. To clarify, my comparison was purely a statement of the data as of today comparing the outcomes of this wave so far versus previous waves at a similar point in time. The whole point of why we...

    Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Why not? So you have a more infectious variant which may impact the dynamics of the situation. However, what matters at the end of the day is outcomes (i.e. number of infections/hospitalisations/deaths) and at this stage they are not at the levels of previous waves.

    Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Putting this in perspective, the numbers are still hovering around that of the first wave last year (which peaked around 200+ cases in a day) for NSW and nowhere near Melbourne’s second wave (which peaked around 600+ cases a day).

    A general question for limits

I don’t quite follow what you did there, but the answer is definitely not 1. You can plot a graph and see for yourself that the limit is undefined (at least for the two-sided limit).

    Lockdown extension

It would be very unusual if the downward trajectory was faster than the upward trajectory (especially in the absence of vaccinations). It took us a month to get to this “peak” (if it really is at that point) so it would take at least that long to get out of it. Given the transmissions are now...

    A general question for limits

The limit is undefined (unless x is coming from a specified direction) because the square root of x^2 is |x|, not x

    Lockdown extension

I think this is starting to turn out to be our version of the Melbourne second wave this time last year, so should probably look at how things turned out back then as a reference point.

    Roots

This isn't a "shorter way" per se, but is an alternative if you're really that lazy to expand... Let y=2\alpha+1. Since \alpha is a root of the polynomial then \dfrac{(y-1)^3}{8}-2\times\dfrac{(y-1)^2}{4}+4\times\dfrac{(y-1)}{2}+7=0 (y-1)^3 - 4(y-1)^2 + 16(y-1)+56=0 Since we get same result...

    probability

The probabilities for {1,2,3,4,5,6} are {x,x,x,x,x,2/3} where x is unknown. You can solve for x using the fact that sum of the probabilities across the entire sample space is 1. Once you do that, you will have the full probability distribution and can answer the rest of the questions.

Math Ext 1 - Got Some Questions

By conservation of mass we must have that Q_{\text{tank}}=Q_{\text{initial}}+Q_{\text{in}}-Q_{\text{out}} However, since there is no salt coming into the tank (i.e. Q_{\text{in}}=0) the problem now reduces to figuring out how much salt is coming out the tank at time t, so...

    Scaling for Maths Ext 1 & 2

Raw marks are aligned to give aligned marks. Aligned marks are NOT scaled any further and do not form any part of the ATAR calculation. Aligned marks purely exist for the HSC record of achievement, not the ATAR. Raw marks are scaled to give scaled marks. These are used in the ATAR calculation...

Do i have a higher chance of getting a better ATAR in a 30 ranked school than a 200 ranked school

There is no material mathematical advantage for your ATAR either way. It all depends on what environment suits you to perform better, as it all comes from within yourself. For example, there is no point going to a higher ranked school if the thought of half the grade being smarter than you...
