this is probably a pretty dumb question but i see the term polarity everywhere eg. "as the induced emf changes polarity with every half turn of the coil" with ac generators. a friend asked me this and i had no idea...what does polarity actually mean?? thanks.
hey guys im having massive problems trying to solve this....been a while since i did this so could be something v obvious, but nevertheless: Find the complex solutions of z2 + 2z(conjugate of z here) + 1 = 0.
tried subbing x + iy, got weird stuff, strange thing is there are 3...
hey guys i would love if any of you could give me the solution for q6 from the 2001 hsc im really struggling with it! its a mechanics q on banked tracks.
this is the link to the paper:

Thanks a lot!
From cambridge ex 6.3: The bse of a particular solid is x2 + y2 = 4. FInd the volume of the solid if every corss section perpendicular to the x axis is a parabolic segment with axis of symmetry passing through the x axis and height the length of its base.
I've done by...
just going over my notes, in part 2 of the syllabus the dot point is: Perform an investigation to demonstrate the production and reception of radio waves. i've written out the method of my experiment:
1.Adjust the gap on the induction coil to about 5mm and adjust the transformer to 6V...
Does anyone know if the BOS/CSSA can ask or have asked for a specific stimulus text or for 'at least two' from the bos stimulus text booklet for journeys? i only know one of them and worried that we might have to talk about more...thanks.
what is pearson's argument/what is he arguing for in his speech? i have all these notes saying his argument is well supported but what is it??? thanks.
hey guys, i was just doing my physics notes and have two questions:
i understand how the maglev train works, but i was trying to find some limitations of it apart from cost of cooling the superconductors all the time. please tell me if there are some more.
secondly ive read in heaps of places...
ive looked in all the textbooks i could find but none seem to describe this dot point...some don't even mention the word metabolise. im quite confused about it, does anyone have a summary for this bit or could explain it to me? thanks.
heaps of people say that cartoons are good to use as related texts for power play but im having a really hard time finding any...the ones in the SMH are pretty dodgy and don't relate to powerplay, most others i can find (the australian, financial review) are about completely different issues...
i have an assessment tomorrow and found this while revising
prove that sin-1x = cosec-1(1/x)
how do you prove that?
and there was a similar one that asked you to draw a graph of cotx then use it to obtain a graph of the inverse, then write down a definition of inverse...
1. The equation x3 + qx + r has roots alpha (a), beta (b) and gamma (c). Find expressions for
a) a2 + b2 + c2
b) a4 + b4 + c4
c) a5 + b5 + c5

for part a) I just did...
from cambridge 4.4: show that the zeroes of P(x)=x4-x2+1 are included in the zeroes of x6+1. Hence factorise P(x) over R.
first part is fine, i factorised it as a cubic. but how do you find roots, not including x=1, x=-1, of x^6+1? since it is an even power...
point p divides a line AB in the ratio of 1:2 where A is a point on the yaxis and B is a point on the x axis.
i) show that the locus of P is an ellipse and write its equation.
ii) what would the locus of P be if P were midpoint of AB?
q from textbook...no answer, thanks for ur help! :)
in fitz exercise 30a it asks you to graph y=sqrt ((cosx - 1)2) Can't you simplify this to y=cosx - 1 and graph that? But when I graphed it on my graphing program, I was wrong. I know Im missing something but I'm starting to get really confused about it - could someone clarify this...
This question is from the prelim maths in focus book (p272) - studying for half yearly.
A cylinder with radius 4cm and perpendicular height 15cm is tilted so that it will just fit inside a 12cm high box. at what angle must it be tilted?
Answer 16° 50'
i have no idea where to start...
I do. first week back. It really sucks, because now I have to spend all holidays studying while everyone else is taking it easy.
anyone else here suffering too?
I know this should probably be in one of the english forums but there isn't one english forum for all the levels of eng so i thought more people would see it here.
Basically, i know you're not allowed to use texts from the same module/elective as a related/supplementary text eg. say im doing...
