is it really important or worth it to buy textbooks for uni? i checked the prices and they are pretty costly and some people say they didn't even use their textbooks...is this true?

are textbooks really that important in uni? my cousin and i checked the co-op bookshop to see the "required" textbooks, and they are costly...i've checked some threads about textbooks and some say that they hardly use their textbooks at all...want to know if this is true.. by the way i'm doing...

My cousin and i are wondering if textbooks are that important in uni...i mean do you use them everytime??i looked for threads and some say they use it and some say they haven't even used it a single time,, I'll be doing business and my cousin is doing engineering if this helps.
