Relevance/purpose/understanding of raw mark band cut offs

The student's aligned mark is 82, thus becoming an overall mark of 90. Even though this student did not achieve the raw mark band 6 cut off, yet...

Relevance/purpose/understanding of raw mark band cut offs

But what if you didn't reach that cut off and instead got say 65 which aligned to 85 and had an internal mark of 98, it averages to 92... Even though they didn't reach the cut off, would you still get a b6?

Relevance/purpose/understanding of raw mark band cut offs

Hi guys, as you have seen lately, after each exam there has often been a thread "raw mark band cut off", however I do not quite understand the relevance of it and what effect it may have on your final mark. As an example, say a student has an internal mark of 98 and an external aligned exam...

    Band 6 cut off-Geography

You are absolutely correct. Anything posted on here is pure speculation based on aligning fro past years. In this being said, it is hard think that aligning differs considerably each year, despite difficulty...

    Band 6 cut off-Geography

Thanks mate, the only reason I asked was because i didn't have any idea, and that my prediction was a mere guess. hence the question. Also, in my opinion, the exam was easier, take the essay questions as examples... What you have to remember is that difficulty is subjective, so while you...

    Band 6 cut off-Geography

If you look at the raw marks data base, it has always aligned up... In 2011 you needed 84 for a band 6 and so on.

    Band 6 cut off-Geography

That really doesn't make any sense- please explain?!?!? If 92 is a band 6 ...then if you got 91 as a raw mark- its a band five??? Wtf? How can it align to less? Hang on, hypothetically... If you got a raw of 91 in the exam and internal mark of say 88, then you wouldn't get a band 6 under what...

Really that high??? How can a cut off be greater than 90- or is that the aligned mark- in which case you would need say 84???
