    UNSW 17/S2 Official Results Thread

Better than I thought, I felt like I flunked the finals with that first question. Rest of the course was pretty easy though. What were your thoughts?

Ahh well, I guess it makes sense, wasn't really hopeful anyway (fingers crossed though). Thanks for the quick response!

Carrotsticks' Solutions 2015 Extension 1 HSC

I did both of these (y/x and ydot/xdot), but crossed out the ydot/xdot answer (which was correct), can I still get both marks or would I lose one because my non-crossed-out answer was incorrect?

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Extension 1

Solution to final probability question: EDIT: there's a mistake in the final line, the second term on the RHS shouldn't have a half. (wording isn't great, but you get the picture)

    Wave function and potential wells

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2015 bro, this is easy. you just gotta multiply E_1-IDW by 3, because that's how many sides are in a triangle, and then raise it to the power of the radius of the sun. for e1, you then divide by planck's constant because you're calculating the frequency. for e2 you...

    HSC Physics MC Thread

The line has the formula: EK = hf - W So yeah, when the value of the work function occurs when the frequency is zero, i.e. the y-intercept (as you said). But, we can also find it out using the x-intercepts. When EK = 0, W = hf. The THRESHOLD FREQUENCY for Metal X is at 4 x 10^-14 and...

    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive No worries! I think it's assuming it gains 2U, since relative to the Sun it starts at 15000m/s and ends at 41000m/s in the example, but I'm not sure how it works for cases when it's not front-on. I'd imagine it is still the same concept, but the calculations...

    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive The simplest way I can explain why the speed relative to the earth doesn't change is with a head-on slingshot effect, where the spaceship initially moves in the opposite direction to the earth, and ends up moving in the same direction as the earth (relative to...

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Use the right-hand palm rule for the holes, and left-hand (or reverse right-hand) palm rule for the electrons. With the RHPR, point your thumb in the direction of the holes (conventional current) and fingers in the direction of the magnetic field. Your...
