If you don't do good throughout the year and ur internal rank is bad then even if you get the highest score in the hsc externals u still won't get a good overall mark. But if u do bad in the end and ur internal rank is still good if someone scores higher than u, u will get their mark

Well from what I have heard, in some schools if you get first in math 5.3 in year 9 then they can offer you a spot in the accelerated class. But it depends on your school
