1. Year 10 work experience in Big 4 isn't competitive per se but rather I don't think they generally offer work experience in most of the firms due to the complexities involved in maintaining confidentiality/etc. There are always exceptions to the rule but I can't remember seeing it in the last...
I thought schools/universities do career expos to help give some insight into what the different paths/roles are? Also doesn't hurt to speak to your careers advisor for ideas too.
Coming back to enoilgram's point though, I agree, don't do something solely based on your ATAR/academics. Be...
But do you actually need a laptop now? There's always going to be something better or cheaper down the line.
I'm a huge fan of the Macbook Air - I'm currently using an M3 16/512 midnight; and previously had an M2 16/512 (also in midnight). It has epic battery life, great performance in everyday...
Just to be clear, do you just want to work at an investment bank, or actually be an investment banker? Two very different things, and with very different pathways. Even if you were to say the latter, do you actually mean the front office investment banker, or something in the realms of...
Wish I could but I didn't even get a band six in Business Studies back in the day (ironic given where I ended up career-wise)... that, and I probably wouldn't be able to commit to three weeks in October. Let me know if you think I can help/contribute in some other way though.
Just provides a bit more colour to the quote and whether it was around homogeneous vs diverse/multicultural populations in response to your original post of "what did he mean by this?".
I'm not saying I agree/disagree but as someone with cultural ties to the area and having lived/lworked in...
Maybe try finding people who are current/former cadets and ask them to share their experiences, and see if it's what you actually are interested in doing.
You realise it's a full time job and you need to be committed enough to deliver on work, and balance your studies as well? It generally goes to higher performing students who can do this.
Also you might want to research more into which companies/jobs actually offer cadetships since if you...
1. Start learning in a carpark, and try to use a professional instructor as much as you can early on so you don't develop any bad habits... and again just before the test to make sure you haven't picked anything up along the way.
2. If you actually do your hours properly, you won't be phased or...
Sounds like cyber is what you're more keen on, and at least in 2023, it is a far more booming/exciting area to be in. That being said, where are you based?
IMO working in a consulting firm to do work with big corporates... that's a far better opportunity for you than working with your local...
I remember the day I actually learnt the rules of how minesweeper works and suddenly all those days sitting in the computer lab at school became that much more enjoyable.
... then we got better computers and installed CS 1.6.
Pure actuarial roles (ie actuary working for an insurer) is a well trodden path but there's quite a lot of pathways once can take if they have the core capabilities downpat... Similarly to law, the skills/mindset/behaviour can be applied to other areas.
I'm old but come back every now and then... :) But for what it's worth, of all the things I studied in my HSC, IPT is probably the one which proved to be the most useful in my professional career (in accounting) and I still beenfit from learning those concepts (such as how to read/draw a...
IMO go with what you feel comfortable with but ideally try to learn from both, and do your own independent research into the topics. There's plenty of people who "do well" in IPT but if you want to really do well, it'll come down to how well you can synthesise different views on each area...
They're very different jobs and it also depends which service line you join in the accounting firm. At the end of the day it's getting experience in what the career path/role entails.
