    class participation-do they actually care?

I wouldn't be discouraged from attending UNSW simply because they have cp. Everyone begins law school on an almost even basis, so just doing the readings will allow you to form an opinion in class. On occasions and in certain subjects, you can do this without having even done any preparation...

    Summer clerkships

Large firms have a lot of practice groups and maybe someone has 3-4 in mind but are only allowed to do 2 of them. There's no shame in getting advice about that, and doesn't show the person is confused about what they might want to do. Your problem may be the one I had with the person who went...

    Summer clerkships

I clerk now at a mid tier and am leaving to work at Freehills. Pleased because it was always my first choice.

    Summer clerkships

This year Freehills was again quick to do interviews and also rejections. I would like to think that they are more efficient because they know what they are looking for in a candidate. It's not hard to go over an application in 2-3 mins and knowing what the candidate is like. I mean for all of...

    Summer clerkships

No one area is that sexy in a commercial law firm. Climate Change is very popular because it's an emerging area and Bakers has the best practice in Australia for it.

    Summer clerkships

I don't think that's a valid excuse. I don't live at home, have to pay rent and the like, worked 2 full days to afford all that and still did 5 firms interviews, on top of uni. Though I have to say it was a very long and difficult process, it's not impossible. All I can say is thank god the...

    Summer clerkships

Look, we'll just have to agree to disagree. What I said was merely my own opinion, and I respect yours as well, all I am saying is, that the time you take to attend 10 first and second round interviews (20 in total) could be better spent, sitting down and evaluating your options. If this...

    Summer clerkships

Well, I applied to five firms which I thought would be a worthwhile place to do my clerkship and got five second round interviews. It is obviously some people's preference to apply for as many firms as possible before deciding and that is fair enough. I am merely saying that, in my opinion, it...

    Summer clerkships

That just shows the person isn't focused and clearly hasn't thought too much about their future. I think 4-5 interviews are optimal.

    Law: grades v. experience

The short answer is that you need both. A Distinction or close to D-avg WAM is required for interviews at the big 6, and from there work experience will help distinguish you from the other candidates. Work experience alone I think will never be sufficient. So I wouldn't work too hard (even...

    Disadvantaged?

Why don't you find a part time job, collect youth allowance & live closer to uni? It's a fantastic experience and your life will be richer for it.

    Summer clerkships

It could be me..or this cohort is just outstanding...but it is very hard to even get a Big 6 interview without good marks + legal/very relevant experience. Maybe they have also narrowed down the numbers they interview at some firms. All in all it's not a student's market anymore.

    *Law students in 2008*

Wouldn't worry the snobbery factor too much. As soon as a few people bring them in, everyone will start using them. They definitely help, though probably not as essential for foundations. The upside to getting it this year is that IT has made uniwide free, so if the lecture gets a bit too...

So You Think You Can Dance (Australia)

When did dance start becoming hip-hop only? There is an overabundance on the show but i guess that's mainstream media these days. Like you know either a hip hop or someone hot is going to win, whereas so many traditional dancers still sob at auditions after auditions. Sympathy goes out to them.

So You Think You Can Dance (Australia)

Very engaging show even though I don't dance at all. I thought the three guys (365?) who all made it were fantastic. The 15 yr old kid was awesome for his age, though that last chic who got in after crying throughout pissed me off.
