Hi.

I heard that if you do 11 units, eg 5-2 unit subjects plus extension 1, that if they will use that 1 unit and half of your poorest 2 unit subject for your UAI. Is this true??

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

Your 11 units will be counted as one unit each. So it will be a mark out of 50 for each unit. They take the top 8 units as you must do English and then do all that scaling stuff.

IF in your 1 unit subject you went better than in your two unit subject (after scaling) then yes, they will use half of a 2 unit subject.

NB: English must be counted, but Ext 1 can be counted insted of Advanced.

Do you follow?

Take your marks out of 100 (2U subject) or 50 (1U subject)

Make it into a mark out of 50

Combine top 8 + top 2 English

OOhhhh

I get you now.

You see, I am coming first in my school for Adv Eng and Ext Eng, and top 5 for eveything except for maths. I am hoping they will use my ext. eng mark instead of maths or whatever.

No. The UAI is a rank, not a mark. Each student has 10 units worth of marks which contribute to their UAI. The marks for these 10 units are scaled and added up to produce a scaled aggregate for every student. All students in the state are ranked by this scaled aggregate. A few comparisons are made to the overall distribution of the School Certificate marks in 2000 and this aggregate is turned into your UAI.

It is not an average of your HSC marks, nor any kind of mark at all.

even if u go better in 2u general maths, chances are, your 1u ext. english will still count over 1u of maths
