I'm going to do what I always do when I get my tax return, donate half to charity, when I tell my friends this, they laugh in my face but I don't care, I'm just hoping I'll be getting good karma. :)

Hi everyone

If I earn below $6000.00 in the 2007/2008 financial year, do I still have to lodge a Tax Return? If not, is there anything that I should do (like advise the Tax Office?).

This is my 1st job and I only started working at end of June for 2 hours, earning $20.00 - haha.
Yeah you would only have to lodge a tax return if you paid tax during that financial year.
lol my mum is an accountant. I gave her my group certificate and she said she'll do it for me, because more than likely I'd rip myself off :p

I earned less than 6000, but I still paid tax. Can you ask your mum what I have to do?

Thanks a lot!

When is the deadline for doing your tax return?

I know I'm not getting any money back so I'm not rushing to do it but I don't want to get done for being late.

yeah use depreciation, as someone beofre said its 30ish %

but anything under $300

ie. external harddrive/ printer... something under... just write it off as "other work related expenses"

by the way, on laptops, my dad says (so i could be wrong) that if you bought a laptop, you can claim it as a deduction, regardless of whether you use it for work or not, and you can claim 1 per year, well you could, this only applies to purchases BEFORE the budget

should prolly check that, but meh, wat he saud
