2011 HSC Question 24(a) [Cu+ vs Cu+2] (1 Viewer)

Probably a dumb question, but in the diagram for Q24(a) the catholyte is labelled as Copper Nitrate. I took this as Cu+, rather than Cu+2 because, if it was the latter, itd be labelled as Copper (II) Nitrate. The HSC answers say its Cu+2 though. Does this mean I should always assume Cu+2 unless explicitly stated otherwise, or am I missing something?
