When you extend the equation of a line 0=x+y into 3D 0=x+y+z you get a plane. So what is the equation of a 3D line? Not a plane but a straight 3D line.

Symmetric equations, e.g. x - 1 = y + 2 = z - 3

yeah, the cartesian form may seem easier,
but when u get to uni maths, u'll learn about vectors, and vectors are a much easier way of doing lines in 3D space
plus, they use vectors in matricies, etc, so it's more standard to use it

but u'll learn about that later =)
