i did 3u maths in yr 11 but dropped to 2u for yr 12

i've been told that for a 2u student to get a band 6 in the 2u exam is exceptionally hard, and that the band 6s are usually taken by 3u students.

i just wanted to knw how true that notion is?
what the chances are of being a 2u student and getting at least above 90 if not above 95?

past students? have any of you managed to score a band 6?

I have done 2U in yr. 11 and 12 and I have an average of above 90. I beat all but two of the 3U people... and the first two places in 2U maths at my school are 2U, (ex 3U) students. if you are good at (less abstract) maths you can do really well in two unit.

Indeed no, you can get a band 6 in 2 unit maths if you are a 2 unit maths student if you put the work in and work hard. I did the 2 unit course last year and got a band 6 for it, without any 3 unit knowledge whatsoever.

I did it last year. Easy.

People in Ext 1 maths get band 6 because if they do Ext 1 they're (usually) good at maths. Hence they get band 6 in Maths. It's not a Board of Studies rule or anything like that.

I saw a document from the board of studies website showing the percentages of band 6s obtained in each subject, from memory 2u english was about 8% while 2u maths was about 15% (one of the highest). I couldn't be bothered hunting down the pdf right now.

yes and there are 9000+ who do 3 unit, less the 3000 or so in 4 U, that gives you 6000 doing 2U and 3U.. the total candidature of 2U is 19xxx, so it's not surprising that band 6s are taken by 3 U people

Erm..... its not that hard to get a band 6 in maths at all. At my school half of the grade does the cours ein one year and accelerates it and maybe 85-90 % of the accelerants get a band 6. If you study like.......an hour a week, it is doable to get a band 6. Its all relative to yur passion for maths and your listening skills in class or tutoring.
