Can I use abbreviations in exams? Only if I specify first?
E.g Human resource management (HRM) is a key business function… HRM is essential for business success.
Would you limit these to the more commonly used ones or can I abbreviate anything which I’ll use often?
This would be particularly helpful in sections 3 and 4 if allowed

Yes, there is no problem with using abbreviations, as long as you clearly specify the full term first as you mentioned. With that being said, you should limit your use of abbreviations to those that are known/widely used, and avoid creating your own, uncommon abbreviations.
