Hey you guys, i was just wondering when selecting afew artists
to study thoughout the hsc year is it better to pick ones that are
completely different to eachother in their art making and type of art?
And how many would you recommend studying?
Also, any types of artists that you think would work best for this?
:)

I'd say make sure you have a group of 2 or 3 artists that have things in common and then another group with another thing in common... My teacher gave us soo many artists to choose from.. just pick the ones you understand, enjoy and remember most about.
I recommend about 3-4 artists for the test with about 3 artworks each just so your prepared for any question you may choose. Its really up to you, by the test time you'll know what your capable of remembering and writting in the test, so go with what works for you.

it also helps to look at ones that can enhance your artwork, as some background theory on a movement you are following, or perhaps a theory can help bring out strengths in your own work. make sure your artists that you choose have something in common, otherwise when it comes to essay writing it will be harder to link them together to form a cohesive argument. although what i mean by having something in common can also be their exact opposites, so you can say "on the other hand this artist believed in the total opposite bla bla.." and prove their total opposition.

id suggest having about 5-6 artists to work with, having very detailed knowledge on a couple that are your favourites. i wrote about 3 in my final exam which i took information from my 2 case studies i did throughout the year. concentrating on 2 out of the 3... probably not the best essay but it did the job.
