Why is that ?

Maybe the school of accounting would like to focus more on the theoretical side of things.. uni cf with TAFE and colleges that are more practical.. the courses might mention the packages.. but not focus on it

besides why would u spend 600 bucks to learn MYOB?? bit expensive way if u ask me:p

Mainly coz if you want some experience in an accounting firm, they would like to know if you are familar with MYOB etc. If not, what extra reason do you give them?

I'm guessing.. along the lines of:

First learn basic additions, then progress to calculator?

hehe..

Grizzly what i meant is why do u have to do a uni course and pay 600 bucks to learn MYOB. when u can learn it for free, at home or something... but yeah i still think uni focuses on the theory, and slightly more 'complicated' stuff than using MYOB...

Yeah, anyone can learn MYOB at home, but Accounting at uni focuses on more the theoretical aspects. You dont study accounting at uni to be a bookeeper, you study accounting to become a business manager, auditor, tax consultant etc.

Yeah thats exactly what I wanted to say Minai.. just wasn't sure how to say it... like I think MYOB is making the day-to-day entries.. like good for small business and stuff, but yeah u study accounting to be a CFO, according to another thread:p...

Hmmm, so you could be an accountant with no knowledge of MYOB etc....
I dont think MYOB is just for bookeepers.....mind you...bookeepers get it wrong all the time.
Not to mention the number of taxation accountants that would need to use it , along side large corporations that use SAP.

at macq, MYOB is core, and wondered why not include it in an accounting major at unsw.
(Im not complaining at all, just curious :p :D)

even if someone knew how to use MYOB it would not be an advantage
look at it this way, if you are applying for a job, putting that down on your resume wouldn't really impress anyone because it is really a step by step guided program for small business accounting

i think its good to have more skills under your belt. demonstrating that you have applied those skills in the workplace is an asset. having a wide breadth of experiences, for eg in a small business, can enhance your employability prospects in the long-term when you graduate, and sometimes in the short-to-medium term as you can apply for part-time book-keeping/data entry positions.

becuase its piss easy to learn to use
we learnt both quick books and myob in the same day in our trainee induction at PwC. you dont need to know how to use it to get a grad job, they teach u at most decent places.
