anybody know anything about this? my friends say that when introduced it can reach absolutely massive speeds, wayyyy more than youre 1.5MBps. (MB = megabits rite? and Mb = megabytes?)

are we gonna see fibre optic cables being used for ADSL 2?

No, ADSL2 still uses phone lines. The theoretical max of ADSL2 is 12mb/s down, 1mb/s up, as opposed to ADSL1 which is 8mb/s down and 1mb/s up, of course, hardly anyone sees anywhere near these speeds, so when ADSL2 is introduced on a large scale by Telstra it could very well be capped much below its potential. ADSL2 does have a slightly longer reach from the exchange though, and ADSL2+ will be introduced (by Telstra) soon as well, theoretical max of that is 24mb/s down and 2mb/s up.

you may be surprised how soon city centres will see optic fibre to each house. Optic fibre is a very expensive thing.

They are already doing this in parts of asia.

optic fibre = 10Gbit+ bandwidth (theoretical)
