Hi guys :)

I'm currently in Year 12 and I have my heart set on postgrad med at USYD (pretty sure I'm going to fail UMAT and get <98 ATAR).

My problem is that I'd prefer to do Adv Science over Med Science. I know Med Science is a good degree to do for preparing for postgrad med, but if I do Adv Science and major in idk Pathology or something Med-related (even remotely), will I still be able to have a good chance of getting into postgrad Med?

I know it's extremely hard to get into postgrad med even with Med Science, and that if you don't get in then your degree is pretty much useless.

So my question is, which is better for postgrad med, keeping in mind my preference to do Adv Science - Adv Sci of Med Sci? Also, what career prospects would someone who did Adv Sci have, assuming they major in something Med related?

Thanks all :)

Depends how hard you want to study for your GAMSAT. GAMSAT is way worse than the UMAT. Adv Sci has better prospects as back up like Adrita said but finding jobs are hard without honours, research or connections. If you're willing to put the effort into studying the GAMSAT yourself then Adv Sci is fine. You can be a lab technician, researcher but I'm sure there are many others.
