There are a number of options that you may wish to consider if you choose to study a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Ancient History. Essentially, you are not necessarily limited to becoming a school teacher (which would require further education anyway since the Bachelor of Arts does not meet NESA's accreditation requirements). These options are as follows:
- Becoming a historian - Since you are interested in Ancient History, it is likely that this would be a career that you would enjoy. A Bachelor of Arts with this particular specialisation would be considered an adequate qualification for someone who wishes to become a historian. Of course, depending on your circumstances and your interests, you may wish to undertake further study in history in order to support your journey.
- Becoming an academic in your chosen field - This can be done either instead of or alongside your career as a historian (individuals with substantial and relevant prior experience tend to become better academics). While academics typically engage in teaching activities, teaching at universities and higher institutions in general tends to offer a better experience than teaching at a school as most students attending would be doing so because they have a genuine interest in their chosen field of study. Doing so would require further education. As a starting point, you may be interested in completing an Honours year, not only to determine whether you would be willing to undertake postgraduate study, whether it be a Master's degree or a PhD (or both), but also to expand your own knowledge of the field that you opted to study, thanks to the research that you would conduct if you choose to take this path.
Alternatively, you may wish to consider studying the Bachelor of Arts alongside another degree. This avenue is for the event that job opportunities in this field are limited and would allow you to still find a job following completion of your program as well as still study the degree that you are interested in. The Bachelor of Arts can be combined with several degrees, including:
- Bachelor of Business/Commerce
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
- Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Social science
I hope this helps!
