Lets say the top 5 students in a Maths Ext 1 class got the following marks in a school assessment.

Johnny 90
Sarah 87
Peter 85
Rob 84
Linda 83

After doing the hsc, they all scored the same examination mark of 95. What would happen to their marks then?

If you mean they all received the same aligned examination mark (not raw), then they would all receive 95 for their assessment mark.

Name/HSC Mark/Assessment/Exam Mark
Johnny/95/95/95
Sarah/93/91/95
Peter/92/89/95
Rob/91/88/95
Linda/90/87/95

something like that.

although linda's mark will most probably be a bit lower... around 87, and all the other marks shifted down accordingly.

The mean and SD of the Moderated School Assessment is the same as for the HSC exam marks.

From BOS
Moderation of internal assessment marks using the performance of the school course group in the examinations will still be in place. This will ensure that internal assessment marks and examination marks are aligned to the same standard.

So since theexam have an mean=95 and sd=0, then the moderated school assessment will have the same.

The example given only referred to the top five students.

It's impossible to say what will happen to their marks without knowing the marks of the other students.

Agree there, I was assuming this was the whole cohort from the school.
