brazil has abandoned its ethanol project because:
- it is too costly to distil ethanol in order to obtain a high concentration
- large areas of land needed to be cleared in order to grow crops to supply glucose
- smelly fermentation wastes pose an environmental problem
feedstock? does that mean what ethanol is made of?
if it is, ethanol is made from glucose with yeast as a catalyst. the glucose can be extracted from wheat, sugar cane, fruits and grains - but a more economical source is the waste liquor from sugar canes, called molasses.
