would this be considered a victorian text?

I have an Individual & Society presentation assessment task; where the texts chosen need to be either: -set in the Victorian times -written in the Victorian times

I know this is set during the Victorian period (1860s) so it passes that; but would u still consider it a Victorian text despite being in Siam etc. ?

It depends what you are asking. I'll be the first to admit, I'm a mod but my speciality for this module lies in RFTG not in I&S.

HOWEVER. having said that, I would strongly advise that you would NOT use Anna and the King - that is, I'm assuming you are referring to the 1997 film starring Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fat. I would also strongly advise against using the 1950's Oscar and Hammerstein musical.

Both these are texts which have been composed last century - not in the Victorian era. Therefore, it makes them invalid because you are studying the composition of texts in that era and those are composed ABOUT that era from the perspective of the present.

If you like the story of Anna and the King though, I would recommend the autobiography of Anna Leonowens herself entitled The English and the Siamese Court (www.amazon.com). written in the 1870.

good luck!

hmm ok

Hmm yeah. I watched it.. wasted 2 and a half hrs.. Probably isnt the best hting to use

Any recommendations? I've seen the I & S related material thread.. Looking for movie because I already have Great Expectations (dickens, book)..

Any recommendations on I & S in Victorian times.. Preferrably a movie.. that isnt too long :) And preferrably not Austen or Dickens.. That narrows it down~
